Promoting a new website organically

This is a checklist of strategies we came up with recently for a new website in a niche of womens plus-sized fashion clothing, however the information can be applied to a great extent for just about any type of website.

Promoting a new website organically, especially in a niche such as fashionable clothing for plus-sized women, requires a strategic approach to content creation, community engagement, and search engine optimization. Here are some organic promotional strategies:

Content Marketing:

Blog: Regularly publish blog articles related to plus-size fashion, body positivity, styling tips, trend updates, and more. This helps establish authority and can drive organic traffic from search engines.

Guest Blogging: Write for reputable fashion blogs or websites and link back to your client’s site. You can also request a link in the form of an update to be placed in an article that is relevant to the styles and type of visitor that are already written on a fashion blog.

Videos: Create style tutorials, hauls (a video recording where a person shows and talks about items they’ve recently purchased), or lookbooks. Even simple videos can be very effective.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO):

Keyword Research: Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Ahrefs to find relevant keywords in the plus-sized clothing niche. Some of the keywords we’ve identified for this particular niche are: plus size dresses, affordable trendy plus size clothing, plus size clothes, plus size womens clothing, women’s plus size clothing online, affordable plus size clothing

On-page SEO: Optimize product descriptions, meta tags, URLs, and website content. One of the mistakes we’ve seen repeatedly for ecommerce sites is product descriptions with very minimal content. Content should be at least 250-300 words.

Backlink Building: Obtain backlinks from reputable fashion blogs, directories, and related niche websites.

Engage on Social Media:

Instagram: Post regularly with high-quality photos of the clothing. Use relevant hashtags, collaborate with plus-sized influencers, and leverage Instagram Stories or Reels.

Pinterest: It’s a powerful platform for fashion. Create boards related to plus-sized fashion styles, trends, and tips. Ensure images link back to your client’s website.

Facebook & Twitter: Engage with the community, share articles, promotions, and participate in relevant conversations.

User-Generated Content:

Encourage customers to share their own photos wearing the clothing. Feature them on the website or social media channels with their permission.
Organize contests where users can share their styles and win prizes.

Engage with Communities:

Join fashion forums, Reddit communities (e.g., r/PlusSize or r/PlusSizeFashion), and Facebook groups. Engage in conversations, share tips, and occasionally link to your client’s website when relevant. Collaborate with online communities that champion body positivity and inclusivity.

Email Marketing:

Capture email addresses through a newsletter signup on the website.
Send regular newsletters with new arrivals, fashion tips, and special offers.

Local SEO and Events:

If the brand has a physical store, ensure it’s listed on Google My Business.

Attend local fashion events, pop-up shops, or organize fashion shows focusing on plus-sized clothing.

Collaborate with Influencers and Bloggers:

Partner with micro-influencers in the plus-sized fashion niche. They often have a dedicated following and can offer more genuine engagement than larger influencers.

Send products for review to bloggers in the niche.

Optimize for Mobile:

Ensure the website is mobile-friendly. Many users shop or research fashion on their smartphones.

Feedback and Reviews:

Encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews on the website and other platforms like Google and Trustpilot. Positive reviews can influence purchasing decisions and improve organic rankings.

Remember, while these strategies don’t require a huge financial outlay, they do require time, effort, and consistency. Monitor the performance of each strategy using tools like Google Analytics to understand where your traffic is coming from and continually refine your approach based on the data.
